Art Menius Papers, 1985-1995

Art Menius has been involved in the bluegrass music scene since 1983. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1977 and an M.A. in 1981, he became a writer and concert promoter. His columns have appeared in the Raleigh, N.C., , , and the Durham, N.C., . He helped write and was a production assistant for the old-time music series In 1985, he helped to found the International Bluegrass Music Association and served as its executive director, 1985-1990. He also served for ten years as the Marketing Director of MerleFest, a bluegrass festival in Wilkesboro, N.C. News and Observer Bluegrass Unlimited Independent Weekly Fire on the Mountain. The collection contains subject files, 1985-1995, relating to Art Menius's work with country, folk, and bluegrass music. Included is promotional material from bands, articles written by Menius for various publications, flyers from music festivals, letters from professional organizations, clippings, and business papers.
